Join Lindsay Adler, Fashion and Portrait Photographer, and learn how to create striking beauty imagery using one, two, or three lights in your setups. Lindsay starts building the foundation with just one light, then teaches you how to expand on that with a second light, before getting even more creative with a third. This class is all about taking control of the light, choosing the right modifier, (whether a beauty dish, silver dish, ring flash, or even some unusual light sources you’ve never tried before), and always making sure your setup meets your end goal.

  1. Introduction (15:17) Lindsay talks about what will be covered in the course.
  2. The Beauty Dish (11:23) The beauty dish is the most commonly used light modifier in fashion photography, and adding in flags and reflectors makes it even more versatile.
  3. Beauty Boxes and Grids (09:40) The beauty box is a great technique for using with a beauty dish, it's not as soft as a softbox and not as harsh as a silver dish. Grids give you more control in the falloff of the light.
  4. Silver Dish (08:41) The silver dish is a very contrasty and dramatic light that comes in a variety of shapes and sizes.
  5. Unusual Light Modifiers (12:40) The ability to work with different light modifiers, from ring lights to black light, can help you stand out from the crowd.
  6. Adding Another Light (08:49) A second light can be used to help separate the subject from the background.
  7. A Twist on Clamshell Lighting (06:36) Another use for a second light is to illuminate your subject with both lights from the front.
  8. Silhouettes and Gels (11:31) A focus on shape or color can be achieved by shooting the subject in silhouette or by gelling your lights to emphasize different colors.
  9. Using Two or Three Lights (10:29) Adding a second light can be used for more than just separating the subject from the background, while adding a third light gives you even more control.
  10. Getting More Creative (12:32) Using more lights can give you a lot more creative freedom.

Great Class! Love Lindsay's approach and practical way of teaching. Not only am I impressed and inspired by her professionalism as a photographer, but by her gift to impart to others as well.
  2. Fantastic course! I'm definitely going to be coming back to reference this often, I know. Great stuff.
  3. E. Piercey
Lindsay's courses are awesome. I love her fast tempo and delivery. Where other instructors lull me to sleep with their lulling voices, Lindsay spouts information and keeps me engaged. I'm constantly thinking to myself, "Wow this girl is amazingly smart!"
  4. K. Thompson
Excellent course, to the point but not short on important details.
  5. T. Frederiksen
Lindsay, thanks for a wonderful class! You are an amazing teacher and a natural communicator. I just love your non-stop way of talking (I'm the same type of person myself). I came from Lynda.com, and what a waste of money. I haven´t seen anything like this class. So happy that I found you. I bought your book as well, the one with the **´s in its title. It is excellent too on this subject. It's all about light whether you punched a hole in a black shoebox or you bought an expensive 5D mark III. So far I have been doing a lot of shooting hoping for a reasonable succes rate. Now you've set me straight, so I know what I'm doing. I hope you would like to continue with some more (not so secret) creative stuff, once the basics have been covered.
  6. This course was fantastic! It took me awhile to warm up to her style of teaching, but she knows what she's doing. If you listen closely, she drops lots of practical hints. I thoroughly enjoyed watching and learning from her.
  7. S. Fan-Brown

  8. S. Halaharvi

  9. K. Fischer
Lindsay is amazing! She's informative, smart and really in control of her studio. It was a pleasure to watch her work and see how she guides the model while she teaches the viewer. Brilliant work!
  10. Great Class! Talented teacher and very knowledgable
  11. J. Gibbons
Definitely one of my favourite courses on Kelby!
  12. H. Montgomery
Clear and concise series with a myriad of examples, as well as explanations. One of the better courses on lighting I have taken. Very well done.
  13. T. Lockhart
    Great class!
  14. M. Belgal
Superb course. A class like this would cost you hundreds of dollars elsewhere. Thanks for all the tips.
  15. G. Palermo
Just like the other two classes I've watched from Lindsay this is a winner! She's probably my favorite instructor in the whole Kelby Training group. She knows how to deliver very detailed information at a fast pace without dragging or going too fast that you can't follow. I hope to see more of her in the future. Thank you Kelby Training and Lindsay for this fantastic class!!!
  16. S. Pellerine
I have watched this a couple of times, and really enjoyed the tutorial. Not in only how we approach the technical aspect of shooting, but how we are better able to think about our shooting. Wonderful job in this video, great tips, great advice, and easy to employ! Thanks for this.
  17. Wow, very thorough knowledge of lighting. She's the only photographer I've seen since Dean Collins that was able to fully communicate her understanding of light. I feel like I have been "updated"! Thanks Lindsay, illuminating presentation!
  18. E. Vinokur
She is a wonderful instructor and her passion radiates. I learned a lot during this session. My only criticism is that because I'm so new to studio lighting I wish at times there was a little more explanation. Having said that I will rewatch it a few times to fill in what I missed.
  19. M. Caplan
Terrific tutorial! I've had the privilege of working alongside Lindsay at a few of her After Dark Education sessions and she is a non-stop fountain of energy and creativity. I just hope she cleaned her sensor after recording this! LOL Great work!
  20. AMAZING x 10000! I've learnt so much info so quickly I feel like Keanu learning kungfu in the Matrix. Loads of knowledge in a short space of time without having to live in a submarine and defeat an evil robot race. Bargain!
  21. Another amazing video from Lindsay! I just finished watching Conquering Midday Light and that that was one of the best videos I've seen. Well, this one just topped it. Her pace is perfect, her examples are fantastic, and explanations are easy enough for a beginner to understand. Her videos should be the standard to which all others are compared to. Please keep them coming! Now on to Fashion Flair Photography.... Lindsay, thanks for taking the time to share your secrets!
  22. D. Dahlgren
Excellent Lindsay! I came here for a little inspiration only to leave blown away by your talent as a instructor. Well worth watching both for inspiration and education.
  23. M. Feliciano
AWESOME! Really great detail and information. Not to fast not slow. Great models and looks too.
  24. T. Mcelroy
Great Class Lindsay!! She covers details while cutting to the chase. Also comes out with some great pictures. Nice work and hope to see more of your stuff on Kelby Training
  25. Lindsay is great! She is an excellent photographer and teacher. This course was just what I was looking for. Well done Lindsay! Keep up the great work!
  26. This was a great class. The instruction was clear and to the point with great explanations as to why lights were positioned the way they were as well as numerous examples to show the differences among various lighting setups.
  27. This is the very first time I have ever seen a photographer use "real models" in one of these video's! As a former make-up artist and hairstylist, in the fashion industry (25years), I have found it distracting, to watch a class of photographers, showing their ? sisters, sitting in as the model and have some heavy handed make-up artist, who can part the hair on, not one, but both sides. It's really pretend stuff! But this was by far, the most real application of a fashion shoot I have ever seen on a video. And she did all this without an inflated ego. Big time thumbs up!
  28. S. Muhindi
I LOVED this class, thank you, thank you, thank you!!

This is the best class I have been given to watch on Kelby Training so far. Thank you so much! I am blown away. The only, but great difficulty we may face, is to find a model posing like yours.

I can't wait to test those high key set up... I was exactly what I was looking for.. Congratulations. Kelbytraining is the best learning place on web. Maurício Zanin - Fashion and Artistic Photographer.

  38. J. Hoffman
I will just keep it simple; thank you very, very much!
  39. OMG!! I have seen many courses here on Kelby and nobody has explained light like Lindsay. I love how she is not afraid to use affordable, "you'll do" type of equipment and do variety with the lighting that she has, so important for those working on budgets! Awesome!! Please have her teach more of these classes! I had so many Aha moments here. Thank you Lindsay!!
  40. P. Phipps

  51. M. Holmes
She is very good. I like the quick pace and the before and after shots that make it all come together in my mind. Again, the quick pace kept me interested and alert as opposed to someone who drags on. Congrats!
  52. This was an absolute home run! Great detail in the instruction, and great camera work showing light placement. Couldn't be better.
  53. WOW!!!!!!!! Lindsay Adler's new class was amazing. It answered so many questions and may have just changed my focus on which type of photography I want to concentrate on. THANK YOU LINDSAY.
