For close to 25 years, Dave Cross has been helping photographers and creative professionals get the most out of their software. Starting with Adobe Illustrator classes in 1987, Dave has taught Photoshop,Illustrator and InDesign to thousands of users around the world. He has a Bachelor of Education, is an Adobe Certified Instructor in Photoshop CS5 and is a Certified Technical Trainer. Dave has taught at Photoshop World (20 times), written numerous articles and several books, co-hosts Photoshop User TV and has appeared in many DVDs and online courses for Kelby Training. Dave is the Lead Instructor for the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, and runs his own studio/workshop space in Tampa, FL. Over the last 12 years, Dave has taught Photoshop in every state in the United States, throughout Canada and in Europe, consistently earning rave reviews. Dave is well-known for his engaging style, his humor and his ability to make complex topics easy to understand. In 2009 Dave was inducted into the Photoshop Hall of Fame.

    Hi There great tutorial... love this guy... but I have a few questions. In this 2 O' Clock Lesson, Cliff says he exposes for the face. When the groom enters the picture he said he changes focual point but not exposure. Ok this sound fine EXCEPT what happens if you have a groom who is dark skinned and bride who is Fair skinned for vice versa - the exposure for one will be wrong for one of them.... Also the shoot is taking place during the day and stark light but not in DIRECT SUNLIGHT - the light seems to be obscured the builidings and trees. That is a good thing! If you were on a beach trying to get these images and there was no shade anywhere and you could not provide your own.. what would you do?? This is much harder when you have no choice but to shoot at the wrong time of day. Add in some wind and it gets even harder. I live in a coastal town and its always windy..its a nightmare - so any tips or suggestions would be greatly apprecaited.

  27. This was an excellent course--well organized and well presented. Joel communicates very effectively and does not clutter the important points with a lot of unnecessary chatter and philosophy. His honesty is refreshing, and the techniques in his two compositing courses have applications far beyond just placing a person in an environment. Great work Joel, and thanks very much for sharing.

I love how the instructor threw in a few price ranges on some of the items so that I could have an idea of how much it would cost me. I also love how he stated which items are best for beginners.   30. Really liked the last chapter where we got to "build" the lighting. One of the best videos I have watched on Kelby! David did a great job of pausing before he told us what was "wrong" with some of the shots that allowed us to try and find them ourselves first.

    Photoshop Techniques for Photographers: Extending the Dynamic Range of Focus Addressing the colour cast Between these times 7.09 - 8-16 on the section Addressing the colour cast Vincent explains a Dave Cross method of establishing a mid point. No Screen capture are there to show us how its done. Can you fix that or refer me to the method in the Dave Cross video Vincent mentions. Thanks Daryl

After having been shooting for about 6 more months, I watched this video again and it made much more of an impact.     This course seems to be out of sync. At least the first portion of the Flash Tutorial by RC Concepcion seems to be out of sync. I don't know if I want to watch the others because it is a bit confusing watching this with the audio about 3-5 seconds behind the action.

    I am looking for a video on 2 different subjects. Please let me know if any of your Kelby videos show this: A) How to make a pixel layer look like it is being curved. for instance, if i had an flat image layer of a flag and wanted to warp/transform it (for lack of another way of putting it) and make it look like it was waving, how could I do that? I thought I saw this technique on about a 2 year old photoshopTV video but cannot find it now. B) A long time ago I think I watched a video that Matt did that showed how to take an image layer and make it wrap around an object. I think in Matt's example he had a logo and a layer with a shopping bag on it. The took the logo and used some tool that used a wire frame to place the logo layer on the shopping bag. the wire frame let you warp the pixel layer to fit against the bag and there was a way to make the wire frame tool hinge on its virticle axis points to turn the corner on the bag.     I really like the information in this class interesting especially as I am looking to upgrade printer. But unlike many of the over classes on Kelby training it keeps pausing to re-buffer, and sometimes hangs altogether. This happens both on my Mac (Intel Core i5) and my iPhone (3Gs). Is there any way of finding out if this due to an issue at your side or mine? It is a great shame as well as frustrating as just as with all the other classes I watch it is invaluable, an well as entertaining. Best Wishes Viel

    I mostly enjoy the tutorials but I find the courses by Vincent generally difficult to listen to often requiring a lot of replay in order to be able to finally absorb what is being said. Maybe it is that I do not 'gell' with the style of teaching??!? I will plod on however......Andrew

  55. Hi Scott (or whoever reads this), I just got done watching Crush the Composition (which I read the 1st several times as Crush the Competition, lol). I'm not sure why I clicked on this video as I think I have a pretty good handle on composition (at least in relation to all the other things that I am clueless about). Anyway, I am so happy that I watched this video. Just the tip about choosing photos in Lightroom was worth watching it for. I just used that on the photos from this morning and it was fabulous. Funny how such a little thing can make such a big difference. I loved the info about editing your work and definitely have some people to share that info with. I think the part about figuring out what you like about others work will also be helpful to me. It's kind of like you put into words things I was thinking but didn't quite have figured out. Thank you so much. I'm ready to go crush the competition now. :)

  58. I used Photo Shop back in the mid-90's a ton, but have been away from it for several years. Trying to get back into it has been challenging - so much is the same, but so much is different! This class was AWESOME!! It has been a great refresher, and really helped me get my head into some of the "new" (within the decade) features. THANKS MATT!

    Hello Mr. Versace Your lessons are great. I love to get all informations about the theory of colours, light and conversions etc. But your actions will only work with the english language version of Photoshop. For example "Layer 1" is in Germany "Ebene 1" and the script stop at the first call for "layer 1" Maybe there is a possibility to change the "Parameter description". At the moment i haven´t found an editor to change it by hand. Greetings from Germany. Martin Zwick

    There seems to be an issue with the video syncing with the audio in many of the Dave Cross videos. I have experienced timing problems with the pixel bender video as well as the Indesign videos. I'm really get annoyed at trying to watch the videos when they are lagging with the audio about 15 seconds behind. Very hard to follow. Can someone please address this issue.

    I love this man's brains. I found however, with the length of the videos, that there was considerable audio lag. There are many parts in these lessons where the narration is catching up to steps that were seen a great deal sooner. Vincent is a cerebral man who delivers a lot of information so in this case it was probably even more noticeable and I was required to back-step a few times before I could associate the narration with the image I was watching. I think this video would have benefited from being sub-divided even more into the 3 or 4 major steps that were presented in each video lesson.

    Joel was effin' brilliant with this two part session patiently walking us through the whole process from capture, both studio and field, to post production techniques. He has motivated me to now attempt a similar shoot and follow-up, which means that I will be revisiting this video frequently. I truly appreciated Joel's casual and straight forward style with emphasis on the K.I.S.S. approach. Question to Joel: I am a retiree and involved with photography solely as an enthused hobbyist. Would you recommend a particular model Wacom tablet over another, keeping in mind that I have a tight budget and that Kelby enterprises has chewed up whatever disposable income I previously had?   96. Just when I thought I knew a lot about Photoshop I watch Vincent work and realise just how much more I have to learn. This course is one of the best on Kelby Training, and that's saying a lot when you consider the quality of the lessons on the site. The techniques for correcting unwanted elements of the image and colour matching two images are so useful.

    Great class, cannot wait to see the next one... I think that it works really well to have an "interviewer" (Matt) that can ask some of the questions that we as learners need to know. Helps keeps it "stream-lined" in to the learning process when you watch the other courses on kelbytraining (I have watched most of Matt's lessons, most important to me the lightroom ones, now when he is there I get some of the same "idea's/angels" that I was taught in the other classes and that really made it much better for me.     I'm often finding that the video's pause in order to buffer whilst streaming. Given that I'm sitting on a 24Mb/s connection and have never had streaming issues from other media sites, this is most certainly indicative of a server side issue with your host not being able to provide enough bandwidth to support the customer base. I'd really like to see this rectified as it's destroying the experience.

  107. Very good tutorial. I appreciate the fairly detailed explanations about what makes the composition work, as well as examples showing how a composition doesn't work. Lots of additional tips thrown in along the way. I also appreciated the tips relating to positioning the nose relative to the sun so as to obtain proper lighting on the face.

    Great classes, Joe McNally Rocks! I would like to know which model of smoke machine he used in the shoot. As it is a great SFX tool I am considering buying one, but with any investment, I am concerned about getting a quality product.     As a software engineer (and photographer) who is extremely familiar with sharpness and noise reduction algorithms I would bet $1000 that 99.9% of people couldn't tell the difference between the results of these actions and a five minute selective unsharp mask application. The entire course is simply mental masturbation.

    First of all, I´d like to congratulate the wonderful macro course. I always wanted learn about macro photography, and this Bill Fortney overview was quite impressive. the reason is that he could show all the possibilities with low cost equipement. Second, the techniques and how to get the good results in macro. Finally, the easy way teaching as the only a visual video lesson can show. Thank you very much for such approach! I learnt a lot!

    Syl is a legend. LOved this course. I shoot Nikon and even though he is talking about Canon I learned a lot. Besides useful information about lighting I also learned why Nikon rules. 1/200th max sync, 3 channels, no wireless for cheaper speedlites hehehehehehehe LMFAO! Great stuff Syl, more please

My only critique, is that the course is almost void of any technical information such as the type and setup of the lighting (not just that it is a strobe). I would have liked to have more discussion on lens selection and why, shutter speeds, f-stops of the background and f-stop of kids (as they look a bit hot), use of the panel reflector and the type of floor matt material.

    Hi fellows, First, Im very happy with this studio class. Such valuable lessons, indeed! So clear and right to the point. Well, I"m in the process to set up a portrait studio. I pretend to do head and shoulders and entire body for books, fashion and family. My space isnt so big: about 18 feet camera to background, 15 feets width, and 10 feet ceiling.     I have a comment and a question on Matt's video on "On One" software: The first lesson (Genuine Factals 6) stops every 15-25 seconds and buffers for quite a awhile and then the same thing happens again (& again...) - to the point where I could not watch the lesson. I have tried several other lessons in the same course and there does not seem to be a problem. Can you please fix this. Thanks. Question: Matt mentions that this is not the only video on plug ins.     Just a heads up. I've got a feeling that the bandwidth problems you've been experiencing are due to a number of trial subscribers using applications such as "GetFLV" which attempt to pull down multiple flash streams at full speed for offline viewing (and perhaps torrenting). This will obviously affect the experience of paying customers such as myself, so please, I ask that you limit the per stream connection to 512kb/s or whatever is around 50% greater than the bitrate of your standard video stream to prevent this from happening.

    Fay's training is just wonderful! I have all her DVD's from you except Paint Like a Master which must be sold out, but because I keep renewing Kelby Training it is available to me anyway. You have made giant improvements since I first signed up in November 2009. I have not trouble connecting, finding what I want, and keeping up with all the new programs, which I watch unless I have no interest in them is rare as it seems there is always something for to learn.     learned absolutely nothing from this class. The lighting was never explained, the reason for the lighting setup or how it was measured and why each light was set up that way. If i wanted to just watch someone take pictures I would film myself. we need more classes like Joe McNally and Hollywood. Those guys give you the details and also make great photos. All the photos in this class were crap.

    I was excited for a class with sports action, but was a little bit disappointed. I liked the sports covered, but would have liked to know what camera settings were used. Some of the other classes they tell you the camera settings they are using and why. It would be nice to be able to download the pictures with the metadata listed. Or at least the metadata listed when they show the pictures. I hope you continue to provide more sports action classes. Thanks

    Basically this instructor says basically about every 3 seconds, so basically you lose track of what he basically is trying to say. Also this is a bit much. Adding a moon where there isn't one, masking out under construction areas, you might as well draw a cartoon because it's not reality anymore

The photographer came across as a little bit defensive at times about his process (which was wholly unnecessary), but his breakdown of how he chose the lights and how he arrived at the position and power of each light was awesome.     Sometimes I do wonder what the video crew is thinking. At the end of the video section where the instructor is showing us (or, more accurately, attempting to show us) the before and after of this long process, we get a fairly wide (and angled) shot of the image that defeats the propose of the before/after since we can't see a detailed view.

    I'm Watching the Dave Cross class Fixing Photographic Mistakes in Adobe Photoshop, the intro video and Dave is discussing a couple of before and after shots, but there are no before or after shots being show.     Hi, two comments on this course: 1. Vincent says he gives us some of Nik filters he uses in the course, but they are not in the download. 2. More importantly, the success of his method depends very heavily on the radius and strength settings in the frequently used sharpening filters, but he doesn't explain his choice of settings. It is critical to his method to understand what you need to look for when moving the sliders up and down, but I don't feel like I have any idea about this after viewing the course. A pity, because the method looks fantastic. Hope this is helpful. All the best Dan

There was always something missing for me, I'd take a photo or two, yet I was missing something that I saw. It just was there, what "IT" was.     Before I comment, I wanted to comment because I regularly join Kelby when it is in the budget and have learned a tremendous amount from your site. The knowledge gained from you guys has been invaluable and has made me a much better professional. All this is to say with helpful criticism in mind, hoping that you would want to hear it. This was a very basic series, almost to basic, though the part with the basketball shot was a pretty cool shoot. On another note, not being a prude, I think the beginning shoots with the girls in extra small bikinis and the girl with the lingerie locker room shoot, Is kind of tarnishing to your image at Kelby. I would much rather had seen, professional girls volleyball uniforms. Though even the professional uniforms veer on the small side as well, I think would have resulted in much more professional commercial looking images, which makes it look like a more professional looking training series. Just my opinion which I really wanted to give you because I really, really enjoy what you guys are doing.

He didn't go in detail into his camera settings, lens choices, why he chose the light modifiers he used, .. In short you could say, add the why to this lesson and it would live up to the expectations of the quality that you got me used to. Right now, it does not.

    This course succeeded if it was aiming to give me a rough insight into how the process works. Really rough. Too rough for my liking. What I really disliked about it was the endless excuses and disclaimers from Douglas Sonders. "If this was a real commercial shoot.. I would/wouldn't have done.." So why are you short changing us? I would like to see what you would do and how careful you should be, not the quick and dirty version. I would be extremely surprised if other instructors would be so cavalier. The retoucher was fantastic, although he wen't a little fast for me and didn't explain enough for my level of understanding. Perhaps he could do a video on his own explaining his techniques in more detail. He seems to be a master of his art and knows straight away what to do and how to achieve it. I went straight to Justin's website to check out his work. However, I would never bother with Douglas Sonders's website because he seems so slack and so willing to let the retoucher fix what he should have done right in the first place. I know they work together, but he doesn't impress me in the least. The bottom line is I'd watch anything Justin did, but I wouldn't bother giving Douglas a second chance at all. ---- No, I'd keep it between us

    This is a nice change and might be an interesting segway to more modeling oriented classes. I wonder if Scott would consider approaching Mary DuPree in Detroit to produce some videos about shooting commercial models. I think Scott talked to her about this a couple of years ago when he took Mary's class. While I would like to see another class or two about compositing by Joel and Matt, I think the compositing thing has about run its course and switching gears to working with different types of modeling shoots would be a nice fresh set of videos if they were just a little less centric on gear and the photographer's side of things and concentrated more on different looks and working with models on how to pose for them. Sort of explain the differences between portrait, glamor, commercial, head shot, and other modeling types and how the model posing is different. You could even go into subjects that have not bee talked about like modeling comp/zed cards and what poses usually go into those. ---- No, I'd keep it between us

I particularly liked the way he shot from under the plexiglass. Great perspective on the shot! I also enjoyed the baseball shot with the young man.   231. Mike did a great job of explaining every detail and step of what he did for these images. He is a great instructor who doesn't talk down to his audience. He should teach more lessons at Photoshop World. The only draw back was that you let Vanelli sit around on the couch in the background instead of having him help Mike out with the shoot. It works though because they are both great individuals who are willing to share their knowledge with everyone they meet. Another great lesson from Kelbytraining, keep them coming it helps out alot for those of us still trying to learn this art style.

    When metering key & rim lights it would be really useful to hear the results of the measurement and what f-stop the camera is set at. There's one instance where a lot emphasis is placed on proper metering and then it concludes with "now that's the right amount of light". Which to a viewer who can't see the meter or camera is completely useless.

    Wonderful course. Many videos on Kelby Training have redundant information (this is a layer mask, this is a stripbox,etc) making it necessary to skip segments. This Food Photography course on the other hand had useful information the entire time. Also loving the candid videography with lots of trial & error.

    I've recently watched courses featuring Bill Frakes, McNally, J. Cowart, C. mautner, Tim Wallace, etc. They were all fantastic and the great images produced inspired me and taught me a lot even after twelve years shooting as a pro. By comparison, this one was a major let down. Much talk about Hollywood and pro stuff, but no great imagery backing the talk. Let's not even go into the allegedly "film noir" stuff. Come on guys, you are not only capable of achieving top notch, but do so on a regular basis. This one is forgettable to say the least. Sorry, not trolling, but I just can't find a way to offer more constructive criticism about this course. ---- No, I'd keep it between us

  244. Bill Fortney has renewed my interest in MACRO Photography. While I have been a photographer since 1964, I have just begun to get SERIOUS!. I am handicapped from a Spinal Cord injury, in my neck and lower back, and cannot walk very far or carry much camera gear. Now I can shoot to my heart's content, indoors and around my property. Moose Peterson has Really been my friend and instructor, as my Military service had me involved with helicopters and airplanes for more than 17.5 years. I have done many air shows, but my skills have been multiplied. Thanks to Kelby training, I am FREE again!

    It would be a plus if Jeremy explained his soft box setup and gave explanations as to his choice of camera settings, composition and lighting before he takes the shot and then make his corrections as needed. For example, show two pictures side by side and explain why he chose his settings and made his corrections. For a beginning wedding photographer or someone with a little experience this course gives great insight into how the flow of a wedding day will go. If you're a beginner it will give you great advice and build your confidence. If you've done a few weddings this may give you some new ideas and let's you bounce what you're doing against a very experienced wedding photographer and get confidence, suggestions, or new ideas. This video alone is worth the monthly Kelby Training fee.

    I have experienced quite a few videos that end in the middle of a sentence and it goes right into another lesson. It just drops off. Am I missing something? In particular Cory Barkers Illustrator Down and Dirty Tricks - the very first video - he gets cut off and then it's on to the next lesson.   293. You guys ROCK! I'm home 6-8 weeks with a broken foot and in 3 weeks you have shown me SO MUCH! From Scott's 10 Essential Studio Techniques to Moose's Romancing the Landscape series. Bill Fortny's Macro secrets, lighting commercial locations, getting killer prints...Wow! For my money, this is the most effective, comprehensive photography training site on the planet. And "Light it, Shoot it, Retouch it live" was incredible. I attended it in L.A. last September with my Ventura College photography intstructor and he was as blown away as I was! We never stop learning and growing, but with Scott and his team of pros, I can do both in my photography in Quantum Leaps. And having the best in the business display their work and then show me how they did it is humbling. I know Scott paid them wads of cash to do these courses (he he) but to give me tips and tricks that might save me years of frustration and crappy images is priceless! Thanks again!   298. This is a another very well done video. While few would choose to shoot an entire wedding solely with a single on camera flash, there are certain situations where it's a must. There may also be situations where it's the 'when all else fails' solution. David does an excellent job explaining the differences in on-camera flash techniques and as usual creates some beautiful photographs along the way. A great video to watch.

    Interesting course and I learned some new (old school) things in photoshop. But, I have to say I am a little disappointed with the photography part.On the 'special effects' shot I don't understand why you didn't bring in a black background and use multiple speedlights to get a more striking result, especially highlighting the angles and edges of the machine. I would have thought you'd ask one of the muscled-up members of the gym to be the model in that to make the connection between using those machines and being ripped. Then you could have also used tight shots of hands, arms, legs etc on the machine as the close-up triptych. ---- No, I'd keep it between us

  307. Thank you for this course! I've had my 60D for about a year and have learned so much more in the few hours of this course than I have in the last year using books. I already feel I've gotten the full value of my annual KelbyTraining.com subscription just from what I learned in this one course. Absolutely love that the course was specifically geared toward the camera I own -- that was especially helpful as a beginner. I can't tell you how many times I said, "oh," "wow," or "so that's what that's for." I especially appreciated the part where recommended menu settings were given. (I really wish I'd had this training before my personal experience with the "Release Shutter Without Card" option.) Showing the images as they were being taken was very helpful, especially when showing the results of subtle changes in the settings. The only thing I'd have liked to have seen with these samples would have been to cut to real-world shooting locations. Thanks again for a great class. Now, onto the next one!

This is a very useful video, especially if your starting out and want to have your assistant watch him walk them through the proper lighting location.     With all due respect, you can shoot the shoes at a healthier f/stop such as f/8 using Helicon Focus which combines multiple imaged into one. I do it all the time for circuit boards and medical devices. It works great. ---- No, I'd keep it between us

    I loved this course. Bill is a fantastic photographer and an excellent teacher. I would like to see a lot more from him. The only thing that detracted from it were those strange moments when he was looking at someone else (off camera) while supposedly talking to me: his audience. This is not Bill's fault. MTV editing with the bizarre cutaways has no place here. This is an educational video and cutaways of the instructor looking off camera while addressing the audience is distracting, bad shooting, bad editing and extremely distracting for the viewer. Poor Bill didn't know where to look either. Shoot proper cutaways or don't use them. This isn't a high school production. Stop lowering the quality of the product.

    I should have watched all the lessons before commenting. I understand now your comment about not using dates to organize your folders. After I import to folders based on date, I then rename them. "Photos\2012\2012-03-04\" becomes "Photos\2012\2012-03-04/Birthday Party\". Once upon a time that might pose a problem with the "Name" of the file being to long for the operating system to handle. I haven't run in to that in quite awhile. I assume that is of little or no concern now? Thanks for an informative and entertaining video as usual.

Please don't worry about your German accent, the English is clear and the lessons well planned and layed out. I will no doubt be watching this course a few more times as I have always loved to photograph cars and need all the tips I can get. I also want to make sure I didn't miss any tips for shooting outdoors as I hope to start shooting outdoors soon and would love to hear any tips on getting the detail in the cars while outside with no model.

  335. Matt I am going through the LR 4 course and think it is great. I am especially satisfied with your comments about soft-proofing . They matched exactly what I had found trying it the other day. Soft-proofing recommended changes that left me with a photo I would not want to print (dull, no color.} But when I printed it on my R2880, without the soft proofing, it looked great. Tom Nolan

    I am rather disappointed in this tutorial. The viewing is only at 50% and their is still fringing around the hair. How about viewing the poster at 100%. Real professionals work at 1:1 pixel ratio. I don't mind seeing longer videos as long as I learn the correct way of doing things. Come Kelby Training, longer videos segments are fine with me. Masking and composting take a long time. You need to demonstrate how real professionals do it.

    Matt, good intro. I note that you put your LR catalogue on your computer. I put mine on the most recent external hard drive that I carry with me. (I have other external drives with earlier images but all are stored in the same catalogue). In that way I always have my catalogue with me both desk top and lap top. When I travel, I take the most recent external drive and therefore have access to my catalogue. Note unless I take the older external drives, I DO NOT have access to my older images. But that does not bother me. Note again, that I have only one catalogue.

When watching a video course with many different chapters the video seems to cut the last 3 seconds or so of each chapter and automatically load the next chapter.     Excellent course filled with pearls of photographic wisdom. I've seen Cliff's website and he is a master. I'll be watching all of his courses. To the producer/director/camera crew: Perhaps the staff kitchen should be put somewhere else away from the studio so we don't hear them laughing and talking as well as the microwave going off. The least you could do is warn them you are recording and ask them to be quiet.

    With compositing being the buzz topic these days, it would be a good time to invite Richard Riley back to do more on architectural photography. While I would like to see a couple more diverse examples of capturing images for varied compositions, this time emphasis should be placed on post processing similar to the way Joel Grimes classes were structured.

  350. This was an excellent course and again, something well worth joining the site for since I live in an area where I would probably not have a chance to hear something like this in person. In my current job I am known for someone who thinks outside the box to accomplish tasks. I think this course brought taking photos a little more closer into what my thinking is. I need to spend more times in areas I go to get the picture I want. Generally the people I go with are in a hurry to move on, hopefully I can convenience them to join and watch this, or perhaps go alone and let them see the results form better photos.

    I can't figure out this video player for Internet Explorer - if I try to watch full screen, it works for one lesson but when it proceeds to the next the full screen version video is frozen with the last lesson but the audo continues - it just doesn't match the video anymore. I figured out I have to find and activate the original IE window, then click on the full screen version again, which updates the video, but puts it in pause, then click it again. The same thing happens in Expand mode, but Expand mode generally causes Internet Explorer to hang, usually requiring closing IE and starting over. Before this, I've always had great experience with KelbyTrainging, so it must be a new feature, or some new folks in web development and deployment, or, you got rid of your QA department because somebody isn't checking this stuff. Speaking of new features, what the hell is with all the beeping in the background? It's very annoying and distracting - if you need a new battery for your smoke detector, use some of my subscription money to get some BEFORE you start recording. ---- No, I'd keep it between us

  359. This is an AWESOME course. Its funny how it come about a week or so after the 5 harsh realities of photography and being #4 or 5 that every picture is photoshopped. Tim has done wonders WITHOUT photoshop. Straight out of camera shots. I am a car nut and this couse makes me want to go out and shoot my car. I can do it becuse the investment is minimal and the photoshop is nil. This will make me a better car photographer. Keep them coming. Also who ever decided on using the Live CAM during this course should get a bonus. It helps put us as the photographer there. Right there each and every time. You need a bonus, Steak Dinner, week off, pat on the back. True Genius!.

    I am having problems playing any of your videos on my iPad (iPad 2). This one in particular stops at the 10 second mark no matter what I do. I have tried watching on the app and through Safari. It stops at the 10 sec mark and sometimes never recovers and other times it switches to audio only...which does not help for a video training course. I try this at several different places where I have wifi access. I do notmhavemproblems watching any other videos in other apps either. I really love your courses, and want to be able to watch all of them...but if I cannot watch on my iPad it really makes my subscription hard to utilize.     Good job, Matt. It is certainly a good start having a book module in LR4. However, for those of us who have been using Blurb for a while, there are things missing from the Book Module that you have at hand with Blurb's software. In particular, page numbering is missing. You could do this using page captions, but since there is now global application of it for page numbering, you would have to go through page by page to add consecutive page numbers. Also, Blurb software allows you to modify a page layout by adding elements and/or positioning and resizing elements to customize your own page. This is a great feature in Blurb and I will miss it if I decide to produce a book via LR4. Another drawback which I feel could be addressed in later versions is that it is difficult to add photos to the book once you have made a certain selection. So if you have 100 photos but have decided to add or substitute more, it is difficult to find out how to do that. Blurb also allows you to select from a wide variety of borders and apply them individually or globally. The LR4 version limits what you can do to pre-set page styles. If Adobe can work some of the functionality into the Book Module that exists in the Blurb software we would have a truly great book making experience. I like the way LR4 lets you select page options, format text, drag and drop photos. These features certainly streamline the work flow. Since this is essentially a 1.0 versions (of the Book Module) I am assuming that upgrades of LR4 will continue to add functionality to this part of the application. Just my two cents! Keep up the good work.

Between the use of live view to see what Tim is seeing and the fact that you could do this in your garage with a pinto brings it down to the level that Joe, Scott and others miss because I don't have a model, assistant or thousands in lighting gear. The fact that I can practice this with one cheep strobe and a homemade strip box at my house is a great "practice project".

    I really enjoyed Tim Wallace's course. The information was valuable and clearly presented. I really like the way you used a DSLR on a boom/crane to give us Tim's PoV so we could see exactly what he was talking about. It was also good to see real cutaways, proper tight shots of the subject. But as usual there were those bizarre cutaways where Time is looking off camera while he is supposed to be talking to me, the viewer. This is not news/documentary, there is no reporter/host there that he's talking to. So why do it? It destroys the illusion that he is teaching me.

His demonstrations show not only how to perform the techniques, but also lead to an understanding of why they work. I really liked the way the course was organized -- simply jumping from one tip to the next without feeling the need to segue between them or stick to any particular theme. This led to a variety of topics that point the beginner to many new places to explore in the software. I would love to see additional beginner courses that follow this same format. Calvin mentions in his introduction to this course that he hopes his English isn't a problem. It is not. He has an excellent command of the English language, and communicates very effectively.

    There is some very interesting material here, and I'm excited to gain insight into techniques that will enhance my color correction workflow. However, I'm not a fan of the way it's conveyed. Pedagogically, I would prefer it be explained more clearly. It feels as though the speaker has gone out of his way to over-complicate the topic at hand, and in other instances, refuses to adapt his techniques to his audience. One minor example of this is the way he sets up curves adjustment to the opposite configuration of what I, and I would guess the great majority Photoshop users are accustomed to, in reversing the white and black points. In my opinion, that introduces an unnecessary bit of confusion when trying to follow along his quick adjustments. He also has organized the tutorials so that you must watch all 3 series to see the final adjustments, which makes you wade through a morass of steps and videos. Even though the editing concepts he expounds upon may be more complicated than those in other tutorials (perhaps far more so), I believe he could have organized and taught them in a much more user friendly way. I will do my best to follow along, but this is a slog already.

    I really appreciated the inclusion of the workflow modules; using the stacking features of Lightroom to keep the originals; HDR and post-processed images together. I think the course could use two things especially in light of the recent blind critiques on the GRID. One is a discussion of black clouds; especially since storm clouds are black and dramatic. The other is perhaps a photoshop technique that Matt used to put a reflection in the water of his scenic; but to expand on this to cover using a layer to bring back a part of a single image that HDR techniques just seem to have a tendency to destroy... i.e. clouds or perhaps movement (people or animals etc).

  417. I positively loved this course. Although I don't have large operation like Joe does (just me) I still leaned allot. I liked the way little details were discussed, from the type of AA chargers he used (this made me feel good since I use the same kind although only 2 not 8), Hoodman HoodLoupe, how to start a shoot and then add lights, etc. I liked Scott asking questions which he felt the audience might ask (I'm sure he knew the answer to). I also liked the photo sessions setups discussions, for example what was wrong with a shot and how to fix it. I love working with small speedlites, so this reenforced a bunch of stuff and introduced more. I have access to several models so I now just need to find an abandoned building in Dayton, Ohio.     Great, loved most of the video on the new books module in LR4. However, since Blurb requires jpg or png / srgb, shouldn't you mention or show that before one selects photos from a library or collection set? Many people like myself, shoot raw format. Books now requires creating jpg and making those available to the lr4 catalog creating more space used. Am I missing a shortcut on this?

    In the section with outdoors flash, he took a meter reading of the sky and it read f/11 at 1/800th.. which created silhouettes of the trees. But then he added a flash and all of a sudden the trees 100's of feet away were lit up? I'm thinking he must have stopped down to to 1/200th or 1/250th unless he used high speed sync eh? My own preference but I think it would have looked really cool if he kept the same ratio at 1/250th and kept the trees as silhouettes.. Great course though over-all.. especially liked the meter reading information, would enjoy more of that.

I did catch the snafu at the begining saying "the D3s is the best low ISO camera" when i know he meant low light (or high ISO) I have one, and it is the best investment I've made. Of course most of us can only dream of having 6, 70-200s or 5 D3s's, but then we aren't "on the line" like Bill is. Kelby training rocks.Jock

  460. I really enjoyed this class. I shy away from shooting people because I don't have a good understanding of lighting. This really simplified things. There were many good points but there were 2 gems that I came away with. One was-don't try to please other photographers, try to please yourself. The other was the principle of subtractive lighting.

    This tutorial rocks. Covers basics of light really well and the tools you need to get different effects. Why a certain light modifier is being used, what situations call for what kind of lighting--really excellent, and Tony Corbell is exceedingly good at explaining what he's doing. Even though I've been an outdoor photographer for years, I learned a ton of useful info here. Trying to expand my ability to shoot on location without carrying a truckload of gear but being able to shoot in any lighting conditions, this tutorial, along with, frankly, most of the ones I've watched on Kelby, have made my year's subscription possibly the best $200 I've ever spent.   467. I was a working pro for years back in the film days. I left to pursue other interests and lately 18 year old daughter has decided to go into photography and I am now teaching her. We outfitted ouselves with good digital equipment, new lights and other accessories and I am having the time of my life but wondering why I ever left. I found Kelby training, and took her to the light it shoot it seminar and so far I have done all this for her, I am getting nothing out of it (Yeah right!). I am happy to say that I too am learning a great deal and have also watched this and Jay's other video many times. I am so happy to be able to see Jay who has been one of my photographic heros from the time I began to shoot. As far as content or advice, hey it's Jay Maisel what more can be said. Could it be possible to superimpose information like f stop, shutter speed etc,as you have done before with some other courses?     "Simple", the course and topics discussed are good however the way Tony is explaining these ideas it not really geared towards somebody who is just starting off in photography. His explanations are too technical and the terminology used is also confusing at time. Other trainers like Sly, Joe McNally, David Ziser explain it much better.     This is probably the slowest, most repetitious, least passionate video tutorial you have presented. Seriously, this put me to sleep three times. Don't misunderstand, the information was there (I took notes - then started adding stars for the repeats) however, the pacing and redundant nature of the speaker left me napping at the monitor. At several points toward the end, I found myself yelling at the presenter to "take the shot, already!" something I don't think I've ever experienced on any of your other fine training vids. Adding to the slow pace, there are other photographers walking thru scenes, in front of lights, taking shots all through the video. Are you kidding? This is not the level of professionalism I've come to expect. The final nail in the coffin was the penultimate shot. No stars for that image. ---- No, I'd keep it between us

    The course is great.. but the video feed does not keep up with the audio. Is this due to my connection speed? I've never had this problem in viewing any other course on your training site.   492. I've gotten as far as the Spot Removal Tool video; great stuff! And I have to say the tip about the Navigator and the Page Down button is one of the best tips ever!!! Can't tell you how many times I've thought I got all of the spots and printed, only to discover, as Matt says, "Bam, there's another one!" Thanks for a great course. I've been using Lightroom since version 2 so I thought I knew pretty much but decided to watch the videos straight through; I've learned a lot, even about things not new to version 4!

  563. Loved this class. This is a great class that I will recommend to anybody first starting out in photography. So many fundamental aspects of photography are discussed with great examples. I will probably also make plans to watch it over again myself on a regular basis just to keep these teachings in the forefront of my mind. Also love the personality of Bill Fortney. Not a "showy" guy but has a great spirit about him which really encourages you to follow his example. Thanks for posting this class.

    Good general information but "Suggestion of Thirds" is a bit lame. Rule of Thirds is not a new concept and is very valid in photography and art so why not use the term rather than dance around it and make excuses for not using it?

    Tony's natural light skills are spot on! He got really great result using minimal equipment. Thanks for bringing him.     That was awesome Bill, thank you. Professionally delivered training, with great transition between topics that only a seasoned lecturer is mindful of. Great images to prove the point, but not when the video zooms out such that the photograph looks washed out. One solution might be to split the screen so that one can continue to view the lecturer while the photograph is also zoomed in alongside.

  573. I really can't explain how Bill Fortney pulls off the best Kelby training video so far. The gentleman doesn't even hold a camera and taught me more in one video than many put together. It seems that Fortney somehow gave us 42 years of experience in such a short amount of time. He explains what it is your looking for as a successful artist and how to best keep the subject interesting. I remember when I first started shooting I wanted to learn what camera is he using and what are there settings. Well Photogs, save yourself alot of grief and time and learn what it takes to take a great photograph such as leading lines and shapes before you learn those settings. And Fortney as many others have said the same thing shoot shoot shoot. The main difference between the beginner and the pro is about a half a million shots.

    This course would have been good if it didn't come over the net with a continuous buffer intermission every couple of seconds. I even stopped for a moment and checked my connection and I was hitting 10Mbps+ which should be plenty to stream even high definition video. The only thing I can think of is your servers suck wind. I am certainly happy that you let me have a free trial to find out how bad this can be so I didn't waste my money. The material in the course was great and I think I learned something but it was so broken I'm not sure if I got the best explanations. This hour and a half course took me over 2 hours to view. Thanks!!

So far I have only taken photos on personal assignments and this class really helped me with understanding the process of registering my photos. Everyone out there who shoots either professionally, as a hobby or even for personal memories should do this, and if they haven't done this before, I highly recommend that they watch this video and favorite it (like I did) so it is easy to go back and review the class as a reference.   603. This one hits the mark! Back in the late '60's, I had a community college instructor, who turned the light on in a very similar fashion. He had us shoot with only one prime lens. He then had us start shooting the subject from as far away as possible and then slowly move in and shoot from every angle possible until we could get no closer. Doing this over and over, trained my eye, until I could identify a good composition without consciously thinking about what "rules" were being used. Thanks Scott!

    Even at home on my high speed internet connection, the streaming is so slow, that it plays for a second or two, stops, then plays again as cache builds up. If I then restart it from the beginning for then continuous streaming playback, the cache is deleted and then the problem starts all over again! I can't even just wait for the cache to build up before I start playing it. At least that was an option before. I've tried it from my iPad, iPhone, MacBook on wifi at stores or from home, and I have a good Comcast hi-speed connection there. Also, If I can't also watch the video on my phone or iPad using 3G because of this problem, what's the point. If this problem continues, my next response will be to call Kelby Training online support to cancel my monthly subscription, tell them why, and then ask for a refund. Unacceptable.

    As usual Matt's treatment of the material is superb. This particular course is organized in such a way that is covers the subject logically but also alows you to go back to specific areas you want to review. One part of the video series is very annoying, however. Because of the quality, the video can only show small parts and then has to pause to let the buffer catch up. I hope there is a fix for that like reducing quality that allows you to watch the video without interruption Overall, I am VERY happy with this course Wayne King

    LOVE this video! One thing, the wacom setting files do not work for the Intuos 5 tablets, they did work for the 4. Annoying Wacom seems to have changed their file formats without enabling the ability to convert ver 4 files to ver 5. Also, it appears existing settings are lost when updated to a verion 5 tables. Annoying. I had just started using these configurations. They are logical and well-thoughtout. I would love to use them again. Can we get an updated config file?

    This is the most disappointing the training course that I have watched. It would have benefitted from more shots of the back of the camera or of the adjustments she was making. She wasn't able to articulate well what she was doing. She comes across as uncomfortable and nervous and as a result it isn't a strong educational unit.     Hi, I've been watching the training videos on my mac or my iPad, but I still have technical difficulties. More often than not,the video quality is poor, switching during the video. Sometimes this makes watching stressful, as the picture is blurred. Even pausing to allow the feed to buffer does not seem to help. Additionally, many to most classes have the end t of in the middle of a sentence. Like the introduction to this class. Is the a known technical issue or is the data strem lost in the Atlantic Ocen?     I understand that lighting is very important, but peoples lives are more important. In the "Look for Shapes" section, he has the model on the sidewalk, and has the assistant holding the light in the street from what looks like an exit to a parking structure. At one point he tells her to go out even further into the street and he tells her "they will go around you." I can't believe he had such disregard for the safety of his crew.

I'm sure that there will be a ton of great info in the course and I'm looking forward to watching the rest of it, but please don't do stuff like that.     Dear Corey Barker, I like your work and believe in your talent. But i gotta say, when it comes to teaching ; you are speaking way too fast. So fast that, before i open a file you already are in the middle of the retouching process. There for one needs to spend roughly 3 times more time because of forwarding or backwarding the video.   733. OK - I really do need to make the leap to lightroom. I know it will save so much time, but I have been reluctant to learn the new program. Heard horror stories at WPPI a couple years ago about people not being able to find files, etc... Anyway, I bought the book about layers by Matt K. a couple years ago and it was written so well and so easy to follow and understand, that I figured I would watch the lightroom video because he did it. I just finished part 1 and I felt that it was easy to follow, he does't go too fast, assume you know things you don't or skip over things you need to know. I am looking forward to trying out what he went over and then watching part 2. I am thankful for Kelby Training, a place where I can go when it fits my schedule and I can go through the menu and find what I need to know.

  734. Coming from an automotive state, I can really relate to automotive photography. I have shot both full automobiles and detail shots. It was interesting to watch this and hear the various tips and techniques. I really enjoyed this and will keep a number of things he mentioned in mind when I have to opportunity to do this again.     For a pro shooter and someone who is very technical with it comes to LR and Photoshop - this is a GREAT course, one of my faves to date on the subject of focus and image processing. We teach photoshop as well, but as this course has proved there is always something new to learn and that I did. The "How" doc in the downloads section is also very complete. I don't agree with the assessment of Nikon NX2, its a good tool if you don't have LR. We used NX for years but abandoned it when LR3 was released. Our RAW images processed in LR3/4 look as good or better than anything we ever processed in NX2. A good profiled monitor is key - the LCD on the camera is the worst monitor to use as a ref and nothing we shoot ever looks good on it.

    Hi, To whom it may concern when the instructor is changing the speed light on the camera i want to see on the camera what's he's doing in other for people to understand. For example he can have a second display where the viewers can actually see what he or she actually talking about, because remember some people learn seeing and hearing. Also when doing demonstration on camera's its always good to try use the main good brand cameras Canon and Nikon not just one.

  749. I just wanted to say that I have been following Tim's awesome work for sometime. I'm trying to break into commercial photography and couldn't believe my luck when I saw that Tim was featuring as one of your pro instructors. The timing couldn't have been better as I have a commercial shoot for a luxury car dealership in a few weeks. I am fairly comfortable with off camera lighting, but Tim's attention to detail, the way he teaches and makes you feel like you're having a 1-2-1 session on location with him s fantastic. I've learnt so much from this series that I know I'll be taking my vehicle photography to the next level. I have learnt so much from the first 3 courses he has done that I really look forward to seeing more of him on Kelby Training. I would love to see some moving vehicle shots. Making a mistake and then just laughing about it and saying you're just going to leave the mistake in only succeeds at confusing the viewer. What I mean is that I think NOT ALL courses have to be in depth all about ISO, gear, f-stops, shutter speeds, etc. Those are all well and good-- and mostly the reason I am a subscriber. But I have to say, little courses like this are kind of a breath of fresh air. It brings the fun back into shooting. Not everything has to be mucho serioso all the time. I've been struggling with reflectors and measuring exposure with multiple light sources for 5 years now. This course has brought it all together. Tony Corbell is an amazing teacher. Helped me enormously to understand all those wonderful LR provisions that I've simply been "playing" with before this course, but without really knowing what I was doing! It's given me the confidence to know that all things are possible with LR and even without Photoshop.     Corey - I enjoy and learn a lot from your tutorials. My question on the Wacom tablet concerns the pen pressure settings.When you have the 'variable' pen-pressure settings active, how can you easily switch them for full constant pressure. (i.e. when applying a brush to a mask or channel, how do you get the full white, or black, brush to make adjustments?? I keep getting grays and have to continually go over the parts of the image that I want to change???

    I spoke to your customer service about 2 weeks ago to relate an issue I am having with viewing the videos on Matt's Adobe Certified Exam Book Camp. Starting with Getting your preparation materials together I noticed the voice is not matching up to the video. At 15 seconds into this section the video is showing photoshop opening and starting to show how to make your workspace. The voice part for this section does not start talking about opening photoshop until about 30 seconds. the gap between the voice and the video just gets larger as it goes on. This issue seems to be the same for all the other videos after this as well. I went to a different computer but the same issue appears. I am taking the exam soon and would really like to go through this course, actually it is one of the reasons I signed up for the membership. Can this be fixed soon?     I like Frank but can't stand way you guys have your courses online! I've been paying for YEARS and never use this crap because it freezes constantly! iPad, iMac, MacBook Pro... Home DSL which plays Lynda just fine, Mifi, again plays Lynda just fine or any other internet source. It doesn't matter were I try to use this service, FOR YEARS, it always pauses/freezes/hangs as if the internet is too slow. Dammit, I don't have internet issues with anything else!!

I have watched a couple of others that I wasn't as impressed with for a few reasons but mainly there was not enough explanation about on why they did what they did. This course explained why they made the charnges, what it would do to the subject, and I loved that he shared camera settings! Excellent course!!!

  827. Tim is an amazing instructor. I have been seriously shooting cars for about 3 years and wished I had seen these videos when I started. But I learned a lot and find that I have been doing somethings right. I have been feeling a bit stale lately and Tim has re-inspired me. I will be a lot more thoughtful in my work. I will be getting back to basics and strive to be more creative in-camera. I believe that this will take my work to a new level. One thing that struck me as humorous was Tim telling us he avoided books and looking at others work to avoid being overly influenced by what they are doing, but if we all took his advise there would not be much demand for his seminars would there. I really liked the fact he stressed keeping things simple as much as possible.

    lighting diagrams would help here. When showing the results during the shoots, I think someone cropped the images where in reality I would hope the layout artist has more room to move around int. Most appears to be cropped so tight they would not fit a square space ( jackets are square). Why is he cropping at all, shouldn't that be left to the client's layout artist? He might explain this next time.

    Hi, Matt... I often like a dark background to work on, too. In fact, I prefer black to the dark gray. One of my favorite choices in CS5 and probably older is the ability to right click on the background and change it to black, gray or a custom color. Is this choice still available in CS6?

    Mr. Fortney is an excellent photographer and he has some good material. I'm really mystified about your production, though. It seems to randomly switch back and forth from shots of him standing there hardly moving with small images on the TV to shots of the TV only. There doesn't seem to be any design to it. Most of the time he is talking about images, but you can't see them well because they are so small. Occasionally he is illustrating a point with his gestures, but we don't know what it is because we were just seeing the screen. ---- No, I'd keep it between us

    Generally very good, with reservations about consistency of presentation - occasionally a bit slow, too often too fast. The single most frustrating thing for me was not always being totally clear enough when you were selecting a new tool or icon, or even ones previously used - I'd have to repeat sections several times to be sure where you were coming from. I hope I'm not the only one to have ever said this, but for me this is what I experienced. Also, as a photographer, shame on you for using the pagoda (or whatever it is) picture with its horribly distorted lower right building, and not demonstrating how to correct that distortion in Photoshop. I feel i would understand this material easier if i could follow allong with the video whilst working on the same image as the instructor. For this reason i was very disapointed to find the images dont appear to be available for download for either of the above mentioned courses. There is nothing at all for the intro to LAB, and the zip for the other contains no images.     There are several errors in continuity in the section of this course entitled 'The Elements of a Great Picture'. The photos on screen do not correspond to Rick's monolog. Does anyone at Kelby Training watch this stuff first? Also, I like Rick; he's no doubt a fine photographer and he's one of the few pros of the 'old school' who've been able to make the transition from film to digital. That said, he needs some help getting his subject matter into presentable from. As an educator, his stream-of-consciousness approach might be fine for a workshops, but in these clips, his casual approach lacks depth and is frankly, at times embarrassing. You guys need to give him some support. Did anyone make a lesson plan for this? Why don't you use a teleprompter or some other means of facilitating his presentation. As a working pro no one expects a polished spiel from Rick, but as an educator, he has to deliver the goods.

Example: This course on Copyright Registration spends WAY too much time talking about the resources on the Library of Congress website, such as the tutorials there. Pointing them out is fine, but going on and on about them for several minutes is a waste of my time. I just want a step by step guide - If I want to check out the information on the Library of Congress website, I can do that on my own, but right now I'm paying for a tutorial on Kelby Training.     I absoultely loved this course. Im into shooting pet photography and looking to expand the creativity thats used in fashion photography. I learned more about the "whys" we shoot a certain way, new techiniques with lighting, angles.. All good stuff.. etc.. Also Lindsay explains things in whole and in a way its easy for anyone to pick it up. Its personable.     Nice lesson, but in head shots your selling the client not the background. While I would never "mug shot" someone by having them stand in front of a wall, spend time lighting the client not hunting for the right play of light on something that will be thrown out of focus.

    Couple of mistakes I noticed that you might want to correct ..... Rick talks about CA mode and says 5D Mark II has 3 of these. Actually Rick .. there is only 1 CA mode and the other 3 are custom settings C1, C2 & C3. Also he shows us a Canon EF-S lens on the Canon 5D mark II when he explains the Peripheral Illumination Correction menu item .. I thought you cannot use any EF-S lenses on the Canon 5D Mark II.

    RC gets a call on the phone and you can spend about 2 mins waiting for him to hang up.... and then the logo trick doesn't really work with the mask so we get to watch the guy think for a little while... wtf? + the double logo solution doesn't really work. you can see the logo jumping all over the place. i really think you should do this one again. ---- No, I'd keep it between us

    I just watched matt's chapter Best Filter Ever..... What a crock of crap!!!!!! A recycled free filter that PS CS6 just added and he has the balls to say best filter ever. What a dip. He should get together with Deke and compare notes. Shameless. Ps has not changed those old filters in 10 years and is quickly becomming obsolete. Those few tools they added are'nt worth the 200.00 upgrade. Kelby needs to edit this crap.

But, I have to say that the two video courses that were shot with Jay Maisel were by far the most interesting and informative videos on photography I have ever seen.     Having a tough time with course displays (same on different lessons, courses). PROBLEM: Audio is interrupted with the SEARCH POSITION circular icon for several seconds,( say 15) then audio returns only to be interrupted again. I thought I had solved this by approaching the lessons from the home site instead of my desktop icon that takes me directly to the last lesson used. It worked for a time then the symptom returned. Is this old hat to you folks or have I got something going on in my computer, like a worm or some other insipid creature? Mac

    I have tried to download the practice pictures so I can practice the material RC is teaching. The problem is that after the download completes I can't unzip the 1.5 GB file.     I liked the course content very much and especially Matt's way of teaching, but I'm had a problem with the time lag between video and audio.When Matt clicks the menu for Filter and the Extract at 0 mins and 41 secs of Why We Use the Extract Tool, it's not until 42 seconds later at 1 min and 23 secs later that he actually SAYS to click the Filter menu and Extract. Any of your training courses that involve people talking are fine. But whenever it involves anyone doing a voice-over for photoshop work, there seems to be a problem for you to sync the voice up to what they are doing on Photoshop, It might be due to my being in the United Kingdom but many of your other courses are perfect, especially Matt's course on Actions.   967. I had been using Aperture for years and found it to do much, but opted to go back to PS before CS6 came out and I picked up LR4. I was comfortably confused with LR4. I knew I could do everything I had done in Aperture and a little more but it was a foreign to me as a monkey learning Physics (monkeys have problems counting) Matt, your presentation was more than excellent. Your style and patience made LR4 simple to understand and use, and I will watch the other classes just because I know I will learn from you. Thanks for one fine course!!! Now I need to go back to relearn PS(CS6) because I have been on vacation from PS since CS4 came out.

    Loved it! Learned a lot from Lindsay -- she has some great tips and ideas that are simple; more important, she doesn't send you running off to B&H to spend your life's savings. Really enjoyed the outside shots that told a "story." The idea with the frog was super and daring.

    This is a great course. I have RC's HDR book and learned about the different tools. But I'm not that deep into PS. It would be great to see a course using PS 5 or PS6 for the HDR portion of the work and finish the image out using LR. ---- No, I'd keep it between us

    I found this video series less comprehensive than another one that I bought outright. For example, he doesn't discuss hierarchical keywording, which I find extremely helpful. Matt is not agnostic about the way Lightroom can be set up and used, which might be good for beginners, but not for experienced users who disagree. Some might like his Kelbyesque flippant tone, but I don't.

  978. Watching a Rick Sammon video is both entertaining and educational. His simple approach makes everying easy to understand and everything makes sense. I particularly love the little memory joggers - dead centre is deadly, eye to eye, treat your camer like a spaceship and think like a painter. Simple thoughts to keep in your head while shooting. Great reference tool to watch over and over.

    I'm noticing that a lot of KT videos don't sync the audio with the video. Typically they are out by about 10-15 seconds but this one is out by as much as 60 seconds. As you can imagine being shown certain Photoshop moves while the instructor is talking us through something entirely different is not easy to follow, nor is it very professional.   982. Cliff Mautner, Thank you for the great training videos on Kelby Training. It is a privilege to look over your shoulder while you are working. I shot a friends wedding last weekend. Ahead of time I knew I needed a lot of help. I found your simple style of shooting to be one I could remember on the wedding day and use with the equipment that I have. I rented a 24-70 and a 70-200 Nikon lens. They worked great. I used my SB-800 sparingly and tried to keep my lens racked out to 200 with the sun behind the couple. I could go on about all the other things I learned but lets just say before the wedding I was dreading the day, not sure if I could do it, and after the wedding I’m ready to use all my new skills, you showed me, and shot another.     Good course overall, would have loved to hear his input on what the optimum exposure for backgrounds when doing composites. I would guess that making it perfectly white would effect the exposure, and that is why it's a grey in this tutorial.

    This is great, but I can really use additional help on fixing backgrounds. For example, when shooting on location, let's say there's a branch sticking out of my model's head.
